Governor Makinde plays down Atiku’s resignation from PDP

By Boye Oyeyemi –

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has described the resignation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as inconsequential to the party’s future.

Speaking with journalists after attending the 10th coronation anniversary of the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Makinde said those obstructing the party’s progress are free to leave.

“Politics is driven by interest. Atiku’s decision to leave won’t shake the PDP. The party remains a strong institution with room for people to come and go,” he stated.

Makinde added that anyone slowing down the party’s growth is better off outside it.

He also downplayed the significance of the newly formed Alliance Democratic Congress (ADC), a political movement linked to Atiku, saying it poses no threat to the PDP.

“I don’t consider ADC a threat. We may have similar goals, but in the end, leaders come and go. What matters most is the progress of our state and the nation,” the governor said.
