Governor Makinde visits ex-governor Fayose amid 2027 speculations

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde on Monday, paid a visit to ex-governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose at his Lagos residence.

Fayose shared the news on his x.com page.

Makinde, a prominent stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been in the news recently, following speculations that he might take a shot at the presidency in 2027, when his tenure as governor ends.

Along with other PDP heavyweights like Nyesom Wike, Makinde was a crucial member of the G-5 Governors, who worked against the election of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential nominee in 2023.

Ex-governor Fayose too is a prominent figure within the PDP. However, he has in recent times maintained some distance from the party, avoiding directly involving himself in the affairs of the party, and only speaking from time to time on issues concerning the PDP.

Both Fayose and Makinde supported President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.

But Governor Makinde has in recent times been throwing jabs at the APC-led administration. He was quoted to have said the 2027 election would be a contest between the ruling party and the Nigerian people.

Recently, the Oyo State Governor constructed a state-of-the-art office for the PDP in the Southwest and named it after the immediate past chairman of the party in the zone, Chief Soji Adagunodo.
