Sanwo-Olu urges artisans in Lagos to embrace innovation for business growth

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on tradesmen and artisans to prioritize innovation and continuous training to excel in their crafts.

The governor announced an increase in the annual subvention for the Lagos State Council of Tradesmen and Artisans from N6 million to N15 million, reinforcing the state’s support for the sector.

Speaking at the 12th graduation ceremony for 1,200 newly upskilled artisans in Lagos, held at the Blue Roof in Agidingbi, Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of professional growth for artisans.

“This training is designed to enhance your skills, create more opportunities, and enable you to become employers of labor,” he said. By expanding their businesses and engaging more workers, artisans can contribute to reducing unemployment in the state, he added.

Sanwo-Olu urged artisans to continue learning and adapting to new methods, encouraging them to take pride in their trades and serve as role models in their communities.

He announced the distribution of equipment to help them expand their operations and called on them to utilize the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, which offers loans at reduced interest rates to support small businesses.

Lagos State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyele Akingbotafe, also spoke at the event, underscoring the training’s role in equipping artisans with technical skills and innovative practices.

He encouraged participants to maintain a positive outlook on their profession and contribute to Lagos’s economic growth.

The event highlighted the Lagos State government’s commitment to supporting artisans, emphasizing the role of skill development in fostering economic stability and job creation.
