Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and his wife, Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde, have been honoured with chieftaincy titles by the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi. The conferment took place during a colourful ceremony held on Friday in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Governor Makinde was installed as the Aare Omoluabi of Akure Kingdom, while his wife received the title of Yeye Aare Omoluabi, in recognition of their contributions to societal development and good governance.
In his remarks after the installation, Governor Makinde expressed gratitude to the monarch and the people of Akure, describing the honour as a call to further service. He pledged to support the kingdom in its ongoing development projects, including the Akure Town Hall and palace modernization.
“For me and my wife, we are elated by this honour. We can only promise to continue striving and doing our best for the progress of Akure Kingdom,” the governor stated.
Makinde recalled his early years in the city, noting a personal connection to the people of Akure. “In 1977, I was here as a 10-year-old. The honour done to me today is because I am a son of the soil,” he said.
He also appreciated his mother, Mrs. Victoria Modupe Alo, who insisted on being present at the event, adding a deeply personal and emotional touch to the ceremony.
Governor Makinde used the occasion to congratulate the Deji of Akure on his 10th coronation anniversary, describing him as a symbol of peace and progress in the kingdom.
The event attracted several dignitaries from Oyo, Ondo and other states across Nigeria, who gathered to witness the celebration of culture, unity, and leadership.
