Governor Oyebanji forwards names of ex-commissioners for screening

By Boye Oyeyemi –
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has submitted the names of former commissioners to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
Mr Olayinka Oyebode, Special Adviser on Media to the governor, announced in a press statement on Monday.
In a move that signal a reconstitution of his cabinet, the list comprises members of the state executive council who were relieved of their appointments on August 10, 2025.
According to the statement, the decision to re-present the former commissioners followed consultations with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and other critical party stakeholders.
The party leaders reportedly urged the governor to retain the existing team to ensure unity ahead of the June 20, 2026, governorship election.
The statement noted that appointing a new cabinet just seven months before the election could be counter-productive; hence, the decision to retain experienced commissioners.
It recalled that during the initial appointments in 2023, party leaders, community heads, and a screening committee set up by the governor played key roles in the selection and nomination of commissioners and other appointees.
Governor Oyebanji had earlier emphasised that party leaders and community representatives would remain central to the appointment process to ensure accountability to the people.
