Timber-laden truck kills man in Akure early morning accident

By Boye Oyeyemi –
A man was confirmed dead on Monday morning after a timber-laden truck crushed him at the NEPA Roundabout in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The accident, which involved a motorcycle, occurred during the early rush hour, causing panic among motorists and commuters and drawing a crowd of onlookers to the scene.
Shortly afterwards, another crash was reported at the same location, though no injury or fatality occurred in the second incident.
Responding to the development, the Ondo State Police Command dismissed rumours of multiple deaths, stating that only one casualty was recorded.
Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed the incident and said an investigation had begun to determine the cause of the crash.
Residents, however, blamed the recurring accidents at the roundabout on the absence of traffic wardens, noting that ongoing construction work in the area has worsened traffic congestion and increased the likelihood of crashes.
They called on the authorities to immediately deploy traffic personnel to the location to prevent further incidents.
