Governor Yahaya launches construction of Gombe Assembly, High Court complex
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has inaugurated the construction of ultra-modern complexes for the Gombe State House of Assembly and the State High Court.
The projects, part of the ambitious 3-Arms Zone initiative, aim to consolidate the state’s executive, legislative, and judicial arms into a single administrative hub.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Yahaya emphasized his administration’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for governance to thrive.
“This project is an unprecedented move to bridge the infrastructure gap in Gombe State. Since its creation 28 years ago, the state has never witnessed such a comprehensive effort to establish a befitting working environment for its civil and public servants,” the Governor said.
The Governor reiterated his administration’s dedication to the autonomy of the legislative and judicial arms, noting that the facilities would serve as a foundation for responsive governance and institutional strength.
“These edifices represent not just physical structures but a cornerstone for a vibrant and progressive state where governance is effective, institutions are robust, and citizens have opportunities to thrive,” he added.
The State High Court Complex, awarded at ₦14.9 billion, will feature 12 courtrooms with a seating capacity of 60 people each, a ceremonial court, judges’ offices, an e-library, and a media center, among other facilities.
The House of Assembly Complex, estimated at ₦14.05 billion, will include a legislative chamber, offices for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, a library, banquet halls, a clinic, and a media center. Both structures incorporate architectural designs inspired by the state’s cultural heritage.
Governor Yahaya announced that the old House of Assembly and High Court complexes would be converted into a hospital and a girls’ college, respectively, to benefit surrounding communities.
The Governor highlighted his administration’s achievements in education, healthcare, road infrastructure, agriculture, and civil service reforms. “I remain fully committed to my promise of leaving Gombe State better than I found it,” he assured.
The Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport, Engr. Usman Maijama Kallamu, described the event as a significant milestone in strengthening democracy in Gombe.
The Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Abubakar Luggerewo, lauded the Governor for fostering unity among the three arms of government. He said the new facilities would enhance the effectiveness of legislative and judicial functions.
Justice Halima Sadiya Mohammed, represented by Justice Suleiman Yahaya Abubakar, praised the initiative as a bold step toward strengthening the judiciary and upholding the rule of law.
The construction firms, Datum Construction Company and GMC, assured stakeholders of delivering the projects to the highest standards.
