Group calls for probe into allegations against Nigeria’s leadership

The League of Northern Democrats (LND) has expressed serious concern over recent allegations made by the President of Niger Republic.
In a widely circulated Hausa video clip, the President accused France of being complicit in funding and arming Boko Haram, while implicating prominent Nigerian officials, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Ahmed Rufa’i, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
Despite the strained diplomatic ties between Niger, France, and Nigeria, the LND emphasized that these allegations, made by a sitting president with access to sensitive intelligence, should not be dismissed as mere political rhetoric.
The group highlighted the devastating impact of Boko Haram’s insurgency in Northern Nigeria, stressing that such grave claims require an immediate and transparent response from the Nigerian government.
Given the current close relations between President Tinubu and France, including the signing of various bilateral agreements, the LND raised concerns over the veracity of these accusations.
The LND is calling on the Nigerian government, as well as the implicated individuals, to provide clear, verifiable evidence that refutes or clarifies the allegations.
The group warned that failure to address the issue could further erode public confidence, particularly in the northern region, which continues to bear the brunt of Boko Haram’s violence.
In addition, the LND has urged the National Assembly to urgently form an investigative committee to probe these claims. The group stressed that the matter goes beyond diplomatic relations, touching on national security and the integrity of the country’s leadership.
A transparent investigation, according to the LND, would not only address public concerns but also reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to peace, sovereignty, and stability on the international stage.
