The Itesiwaju Ondo Development Group has initiated discussions with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to address the prolonged power outage in Ondo East Local Government Area, which has persisted since 2011.

On Monday, the group, accompanied by traditional rulers and grassroots representatives, met with the BEDC Regional Head, Engr. Dele Johnson, to press for urgent restoration efforts.

Leading the delegation, community advocate Orisamuyiwa Dickson urged BEDC to provide a clear timeline and outline practical steps for reconnection.

The Oloja of Oboto, Chief Adenuoye Awotunji, stressed the importance of electricity to community development, saying, “Electricity is not a luxury, it is a necessity for progress in our communities.” Similarly, the Baale of Laagba, Chief Adeniyi Aduragbemi, declared his community’s readiness to support all measures toward restoring supply.

Responding, Engr. Johnson acknowledged the concerns raised and announced plans to conduct a technical assessment of existing infrastructure from Igba to Wasimi.

He assured that the findings would be escalated to BEDC’s headquarters upon completion of the review.
