Hayatudeen tasks Nigeria on trust, strong institutions

Former Group Managing Director of the New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC), Alhaji Mohammed Hayatudeen, has congratulated Independent Newspapers on its 25th anniversary, describing the milestone as a reflection of resilience and professionalism in Nigeria’s media industry.

Speaking as Guest of Honour at the Silver Jubilee Awards Ceremony in Lagos on Saturday, Hayatudeen said the newspaper’s continued success over the past 25 years was more than a business achievement.

“The newspaper’s survival and growth over the past quarter century represents a triumph that is far more than a business success,” he said.

He noted that Independent Newspapers has not only documented key moments in Nigeria’s history but has also contributed to shaping the country through responsible journalism.

According to him, the media remains critical to democracy by informing citizens, questioning authority and holding power accountable.

Hayatudeen also praised recipients of awards presented at the event, describing them as deserving “game changers” whose contributions have transformed standards in business, public service and social impact.

“A game changer is not merely someone who alters the trajectory of their fields. They break barriers so that others may walk through,” he said.

He added that the honourees represent “a rare fusion of vision and courage” through their commitment to excellence.
