HBM Nigeria vows continued investment in communities, sustainable growth

The Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of HBM Nigeria Plc, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, has said the company will continue to invest in its host communities while pursuing long-term business growth, stressing that sustainability remains central to its operations across Nigeria.

Alade-Akinyemi spoke during a media engagement in Lagos on Monday, where the company provided further insight into its recent name change from Lafarge Africa Plc to HBM Nigeria Plc.

He said sustainability remains at the heart of HBM Nigeria’s business strategy, noting that the company has consistently increased investments in education, healthcare, environmental conservation, community infrastructure and youth empowerment in its host communities over the past five years.

“Our sustainability initiatives continue to impact lives and strengthen communities because we believe strongly in sustainability, and we put our money where our heart is.

“Every year, we continue to increase our investments because creating shared value for our communities is fundamental to who we are as a business,” Alade-Akinyemi said.

The CEO added that the company’s expansion projects at its Ashaka and Sagamu plants are creating employment opportunities by giving priority to skilled and unskilled youths from host communities during construction.

He said the projects would create more than 100 direct jobs and thousands of indirect opportunities while supporting local contractors and small businesses.

Alade-Akinyemi assured customers that the company’s trusted brands, including Elephant Cement, Unicem and Ashaka Cement, would retain their identities, adding that HBM Nigeria’s products, quality and commitment to excellence remain unchanged.
