Member of the House of Representatives representing Afijio, Atiba, Oyo East, and Oyo West Federal Constituency, Honourable Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi, has paid tribute to his late father, Oba Lamidi Atanda Olayiwola Adeyemi III, the former Alaafin of Oyo, on his 87th posthumous birthday.
In a heartfelt message, Hon. Adeyemi described the late monarch as a revered father and visionary leader whose influence and legacy continue to shape the Oyo community. “Rest on, Oba Lamidi Atanda Olayiwola Adeyemi III, Omo Ibironke,” he wrote in his tribute.
To mark the occasion, two major events have been organised in Oyo town — the Oba Adeyemi III Quiz and Debate Competition and the Oba Adeyemi Memorial Football Competition.
The final of the quiz and debate competition is scheduled to hold today, Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the School of Surveying, Oyo, by 12 noon. Winners will receive cash prizes, laptops, and free NECO forms, while all participating students and teachers will go home with souvenirs and cash gifts. Celebrations will continue on Thursday, October 16, 2025, with the football competition final at the Oba Adeyemi III Mini Stadium, Ode Aremo, Oyo, beginning at 4 p.m.
Hon. Adeyemi said the competitions were designed to honour his late father’s enduring legacy in education, youth development, and the promotion of Yoruba culture.
He added that all the ICT equipment used at the various competition centres were installed and provided through his personal effort.
Hon. Adeyemi also recalled that the winner of last year’s edition, Miss Alim Ayisat of Fiditi Grammar School, received a cash prize and a full university scholarship sponsored by him.
According to him, Miss Ayisat later scored 293 in the UTME and will be admitted to the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) to further her studies.
