Hon. Shagaya distributes fertilizers to farmers in Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency (Photos)
The lawmaker, representing Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Muktar Tolani Shagaya, @MuktarShagaya this week, distributed 600 bags of 50kg fertilizers to farmers in his constituency.
According to him, the initiative is designed to support smallholder farmers across the Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency.
Hon. Shagaya said the step aims to ‘reducing food production challenges and enhance the quality and quantity of agricultural produce.’
The fertilizers were distributed ‘among members of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria in the local government areas of Ilorin West and Asa, individual farmers, and constituents engaged in farming,’ the lawmaker revealed.
Hon. Shagaya added that reduced crop yields are the result of the soil’s decreased fertility due to the effects of climate change and over cultivation, therefore, the fertiliser distribution constitute an important first step towards empowering farmers and assisting them in producing greater crops.
The program, he said is a part of a bigger endeavour to support farmers in their crucial role as food producers, expand communities’ economies, and improve the agricultural sector in the Ilorin West/ASA Federal Constituency.
