“Honouring Our Elders”: Eshilokun rolls out welfare, health support across Lagos Central

Senator Wasiu Eshilokun has once again brought relief and joy to elderly residents of the Lagos Central Senatorial District through the annual Elderly Citizens Assistance Scheme (ECAS), reaffirming his commitment to the welfare of senior citizens across the district.

Under the programme, which was held simultaneously across the 13 local government areas (LGAs) and local council development areas (LCDAs) in the district, beneficiaries received welfare packages containing a 10kg bag of rice, Ankara fabric, a food flask and ₦20,000 cash support. This year’s edition was themed “Honouring Our Elders – A Celebration of Wisdom, Love and Legacy.”

Across the various councils, chairmen of the LGAs and LCDAs hosted the elderly to celebratory events, with several councils also providing free medical check-ups. The venues, including Eti-Osa East LCDA, Eti-Osa LGA, Iru Victoria Island LCDA, Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, Lagos Island LGA, Lagos Island East LCDA, Yaba LCDA, Lagos Mainland LGA, Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, Apapa LGA, Coker-Aguda LCDA, Itire-Ikate LCDA and Surulere LGA, witnessed vibrant activities and strong community participation.

For this year’s celebration, Senator Eshilokun was physically present at events held in Ikoyi-Obalende, Iru Victoria Island and Itire-Ikate LCDAs, while his address was read by council chairmen in other locations.

In his message to the elders, the senator urged them to pay close attention to their health, while calling on younger generations to show greater care and respect for senior citizens. He described the elderly as invaluable pillars of society whose roles as parents, teachers, mentors and leaders have shaped individuals and communities.

According to him, national development can only be achieved when society values and cares for its elders, whom he described as custodians of wisdom, love and cultural heritage. He noted that their guidance and sacrifices have helped preserve traditions and values that continue to influence present and future generations.

Senator Eshilokun also expressed appreciation to the executive chairmen of the 13 LGAs and LCDAs for their support in ensuring the success of the programme.

In their remarks, the chairmen of Ikoyi-Obalende, Iru Victoria Island and Itire-Ikate LCDAs thanked the senator for personally attending the events in their councils, describing his consistent support for the elderly as commendable and impactful.
