Makinde commissions Omololu Olunloyo Relaxation Park in Ibadan

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Thursday commissioned the Omololu Olunloyo Relaxation Park in Ibadan, a newly built tourism and leisure facility named after the late former governor of the state, Dr Victor Omololu Olunloyo.

Makinde, who was represented by his deputy, Barrister Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, said the park was designed to serve as both a relaxation centre and a cultural heritage site that would promote tourism and showcase the history of Oyo State.

Speaking at the event held along Airport Road, Alakia, the governor noted that the park would enable residents and visitors to learn more about the unique cultural identity of the state and its various geopolitical zones through displayed artefacts.

He explained that the project was developed from an abandoned site and described the initiative as a deliberate effort to immortalise Dr Olunloyo, whom he praised as an exceptional intellectual and statesman who made significant contributions to Oyo State and Nigeria.

Makinde recalled that the former governor had previously been honoured during his lifetime, including the commissioning of a major dual carriageway linking Ibadan to the airport, stressing that the relaxation park further reinforces the government’s commitment to preserving history.

He added that the park reflects the culture and traditions of different parts of the state, including Ibadan, Ogbomosho, Oke Ogun and Ibarapa, noting that such projects help to strengthen cultural awareness and unity among the people.

The governor urged members of the public to maintain the facility and use it responsibly, pointing out that its proximity to the international airport makes it a key attraction for investors and foreign visitors to the state.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transport, Hon. Abulmojeed Mogbonjubola, described the park as another milestone in the Makinde administration’s urban renewal efforts, saying it would enhance Ibadan’s landscape and serve as a centre for leisure, history and culture.
