Housing Ministry to launch ‘Uber for Artisans’ digital platform

The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has announced plans to develop a digital platform, ‘Uber for Artisans,’ to enhance the visibility and accessibility of skilled workers across Nigeria.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, disclosed this initiative while receiving the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Industrial Training and Development, Adamson Ayinde, at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

Dangiwa explained that the platform will function as an online marketplace, connecting trained and certified artisans with potential customers, improving service efficiency, and boosting artisans’ earning potential. He described the initiative as a “game-changer” in the construction industry, bridging the gap between supply and demand while ensuring quality service delivery.

As part of broader efforts to address Nigeria’s housing deficit, the minister highlighted ongoing projects, including the construction of 10,112 housing units across 14 sites, expected to generate over 252,000 jobs.

To further support the construction industry, the ministry will launch the National Artisan Skill Acquisition Program (NASA) this year. The program aims to train young Nigerians in construction-related skills such as plumbing, electrical work, masonry, and carpentry.

Dangiwa emphasized that equipping artisans with proper training will not only improve housing quality but also contribute to economic development. The ministry is collaborating with relevant agencies and private sector stakeholders to establish vocational training centers in Abuja, Lagos, and Imo states.

Hon. Adamson Ayinde commended the minister’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Housing Development program and revealed plans for a six-month training and certification program for artisans. The initiative, developed in partnership with COREN and the Federal Public Assets Maintenance Department, aims to enhance construction quality and position Nigerian artisans for international opportunities.

Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to providing affordable housing and ensuring the success of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
