How I want to be remembered — Sanwo-Olu’s wife

Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, wife of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said she wants to be remembered for building the capacity of women and contributing to their development across various spheres of life.

Sanwo-Olu, who is the convener of the Council of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), disclosed this on Thursday at a pre-event press conference ahead of the 26th National Women’s Conference in Lagos.

Responding to a question on how she would like to be remembered, the medical doctor said she hoped to be regarded as a leader who empowered women and created opportunities for them to contribute meaningfully to their families and society.

“I want to be remembered for human capacity building, especially in women. I want to be remembered as one who impacted women in various spheres, as a leader who lifted my fellow sisters up,” she said.

Sanwo-Olu added that investing in women had a multiplier effect, noting that empowering women not only improved their individual lives but also strengthened their households and society at large. As the final press conference of her tenure as COWLSO convener, she advised her successor to study the history of the organisation, understand its evolution and build stronger relationships with similar organisations in other states.

Reflecting on her tenure, Sanwo-Olu said she was particularly proud of her efforts to promote ethical compliance in the health and education sectors and strengthen connections at the community level, while stressing the importance of leaders having listening ears.

“As a trained medical doctor, I am glad and proud that I ensured ethical compliance in the health and education sector. I tried my possible best to connect the dots at community level. The journey so far has been educative and interesting,” she said.

The pre-event press conference, held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Lagos, was organised to brief journalists on the 26th National Women’s Conference, themed “Anchored for Purpose: Be the Blueprint,” scheduled for October 26-28, 2026, at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos. It was attended by the wife of the Lagos State deputy governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat; wife of the Lagos State head of service, Mrs. Oyinlola Agoro; and Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, among other government officials and COWLSO members.
