‘I have no ties with Aregbesola, remain loyal to Tinubu’ — Senator Basiru

The campaign organisation of Senator Ajibola Surajudeen Basiru has denied reports linking him to former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, dismissing claims of internal crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State.
In a statement by the campaign’s spokesperson, Prof. Sulaiman Ajala, the group described a recent Daily Post publication alleging a political alliance with Aregbesola as false and part of a smear campaign targeted at undermining Senator Basiru’s image ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The statement also refuted claims that Senator Basiru criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the recent visit of Governor Ademola Adeleke and his family to the Presidential Villa. It noted that Basiru made no comment on the visit and does not engage in political speculation.
Prof. Ajala emphasized that Senator Basiru remains loyal and respectful to President Tinubu, describing him as a mentor of over two decades. He added that Basiru’s campaign team is disciplined and has never shown any form of disrespect towards the president or the APC leadership.
According to the statement, Senator Basiru has not had any personal or political contact with Aregbesola since 2021 and has no intention of forming an alliance with anyone opposed to the political ideals of President Tinubu.
Ajala reaffirmed that Dr. Basiru is guided by party discipline and divine providence, and he strongly believes power comes from God and through the party’s leadership. He stressed that Basiru would not compromise his values for political advantage.
The campaign accused political opponents of sponsoring false narratives to create division within the Osun APC, describing the allegations as baseless and unfounded attempts to malign the senator’s reputation.
Senator Basiru called on individuals spreading what he termed malicious lies to desist, reaffirming his commitment to the APC, and pledging to continue upholding the values of loyalty, humility, and integrity in public service.
