Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has returned to Ibadan, Oyo State, barely 24 hours after resigning from the cabinet of President Bola Tinubu.
Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State, arrived in the city on Wednesday to a warm reception from supporters.
He was received at the Ladoke Akintola International Airport, where a crowd gathered to welcome him amid cheers and excitement.
In viral videos circulating online, Adelabu was seen dressed in blue traditional attire, stepping onto a busy road in Ibadan to help direct traffic during congestion.
He was also observed exchanging greetings with residents and supporters who thronged the area to catch a glimpse of him.
Speaking with journalists shortly after his arrival, Adelabu reflected on his time in office, saying, “I have seen, and I have conquered,” while noting that he gave his best to national development through the power sector.
He added that his experience in government has strengthened his resolve to serve the people of Oyo State at a higher level.
Adelabu’s resignation, which takes effect on April 30, 2026, was conveyed in a letter to the President, stating his intention to focus fully on the 2027 governorship election in the state.
