‘I hope my daughter knows her worth’ — Annie Macaulay reflects on failed marriage

Nollywood actress Annie Macaulay has sparked conversations online after sharing a heartfelt Instagram post many believe was a reflection on her marital struggles and recent separation from music legend Innocent “2Baba” Idibia.

On Monday, the actress posted a text image that read: “I hope my daughter doesn’t accept things I’ve accepted, that she knows her worth from the start and that no matter what, she always has me in her corner.”

The message quickly drew reactions from fans, who interpreted it as a veiled reference to her years with 2Baba and the challenges that eventually led to their split.

Annie publicly confirmed her separation in May 2025 at the 17th Headies Awards in Atlanta. While presenting an award with Farooq Oreagba, she introduced herself as “Annie Idi…” before quickly correcting to “Annie Macaulay.” She capped the moment with a playful shout of “Hey, single ladies!” to loud applause, widely seen as her first open acknowledgment of the breakup.

Her ex-husband had earlier announced the end of their marriage in January 2025, closing the curtain on what was once regarded as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated celebrity unions.

The couple, who married in 2013, had been together for more than a decade and share two daughters. However, their relationship faced constant strain from controversies surrounding 2Baba’s ties with Pero Adeniyi and Sunmbo Adeoye, both of whom also had children with him.

Throughout the turbulence, Annie often found herself in the public eye, defending their marriage while tabloids chronicled the Afrobeat star’s extended family — six children with three women.
