Workers in Osun State welcomed Governor Ademola Adeleke to his office on Monday, expressing their gratitude for the implementation of the new minimum wage. They declared that, come 2026, there would be no vacancy in the Osun Government House for opposition parties.
The state government had signed an agreement with labor unions last week, approving a new minimum wage of ₦75,558.24, effective December 1, 2024.
Addressing the workers at the State Secretariat in Abere, the Governor reassured them of his commitment to their welfare, promising to ensure their happiness.
Adeleke announced plans to improve the state’s tax system to increase Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), which would be used to further enhance workers’ welfare.
He said, “I wish our allocation was like that of Lagos or Akwa Ibom States, I would have done more, but no matter what, with the little we are earning, I will make sure you are happy.
“We are going to improve our tax system to boost our IGR, and through that, I will use the funds to spoil you.”
“I have the fear of God, and I will keep repeating that. Any leader who doesn’t have the fear of God is not worthy to lead. It’s a sin for someone to work and not get paid, and that is not me.”
The Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina, praised the governor’s kindness, saying, “We are here today to show our appreciation for Governor Adeleke’s generosity. He not only approved the national minimum wage for us but also gave us ₦75,558.24.”
“As workers, we will not disappoint the people of Osun, ensuring that the state receives more quality service from the workforce.”
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) chairman in the state, Christopher Arapasopo, commended the governor for his seamless approval of the minimum wage, saying, “He has proven himself to be a man of his word.”
Arapasopo added, “We have gathered here today to show appreciation to Mr. Governor for his unmatched care and support for workers. We are declaring that, come 2026, there will be no vacancy in Abere Government House.”
“We are satisfied with your exceptional performance, not just for workers, but across all sectors in Osun State. Your good work is evident everywhere.”
