NASENI empowers 100 youths in Ebonyi with electrical skills
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has successfully completed a five-day training program for 100 youths in Ebonyi State.
The training, held from November 26 to 29, 2024, at Remeritona Hotel and Suites in Abakaliki, focused on modern methods of electrical installations and maintenance.
The training covered a wide range of essential skills, including advanced electrical wiring installation, appliance repair, solar power installation, electrical panel maintenance, safety inspections, and the upgrading of electrical systems.
The initiative is part of NASENI’s ongoing efforts to create job opportunities, empower Nigerian youth, and contribute to the nation’s socio-economic development.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, represented by Mr. Ibrahim Baba Dauda, the Coordinating Director of Finance and Accounts, emphasized the agency’s commitment to poverty alleviation and job creation through skills acquisition.
He noted that the construction industry’s growth has created a significant demand for skilled electrical workers, making such training essential for addressing the sector’s needs.
“This training is the third of its kind in the South-East zone, following similar programs in Anambra and Imo States. It is part of NASENI’s contribution to economic growth, as inspired by President Tinubu’s 8-Point Agenda,” said Dauda.
He also highlighted the importance of the training in offering youths employability, global opportunities, and personal growth.
Mr. Dauda encouraged the participants to utilize the startup kits provided, which included essential tools such as safety gear, wire strippers, measuring tapes, and a wireless inspection camera. He urged them not to sell the kits but to invest in their careers and use the skills acquired to train others.
Ebonyi State Governor, Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, represented by Hon. Elija Okwu Oko Udu, Commissioner for Skill Development and Job Creation, lauded the collaboration with NASENI, calling it a vital step toward creating opportunities for youth empowerment in the state.
“This investment is not only about individual growth but also about building a resilient, robust economy,” he said.
