Ibas takes over as Rivers Administrator, vows to restore order

Ibok-Ete Ibas, the newly appointed sole administrator of Rivers State, has pledged to restore law and order while ensuring there is no room for lawlessness.
Speaking during a statewide broadcast in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Ibas assured residents that his leadership would not tolerate actions that threaten the state’s peace and stability.
“Let me be clear: under my leadership, civil liberties and fundamental human rights will be respected and protected. The rule of law will remain sacrosanct,” Ibas said.
He warned that individuals attempting to sabotage social or economic stability, disrupt national infrastructure, or incite violence for selfish interests would face strict consequences.
Ibas emphasized that he is not a partisan actor but is committed to stabilizing the state. He called on security agencies to remain neutral, uphold citizens’ rights, and maintain order.
He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the 10th National Assembly for their support, vowing to carry out his mandate with integrity.
“As a son of the Niger Delta, I understand the expectations of the people and the challenges ahead. My mandate is clear—to restore law and order, stabilize the polity, and create the conditions for full restoration of democratic institutions,” he said.
Ibas’ appointment follows Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers, which led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all state assembly members due to the prolonged political crisis.
