The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC Plc, has suspended some of its staff members over alleged involvement in the vandalism of electricity infrastructure in Ikirun, Osun State.

The company’s Coordinating Head, Corporate Services, Angela Olanrewaju, confirmed the suspension in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan on Wednesday.

Olanrewaju said the affected employees would remain suspended pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation into the allegations, stressing that the action was consistent with IBEDC’s zero-tolerance policy towards vandalism, theft of electricity infrastructure and other unethical or criminal conduct.

The company said vandalism of electricity infrastructure had become a growing concern because of its impact on electricity supply, customers and communities. It noted that damage to critical assets often leads to prolonged outages, service disruptions and avoidable inconvenience for consumers.

IBEDC also commended the Osun State Police Command for its efforts following the arrest of a suspect in connection with the alleged vandalism. The company said it was fully cooperating with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation.

The electricity distribution company further stated that appropriate internal disciplinary action would be taken against any staff member found culpable, in line with its policies and applicable regulations. It added that anyone found responsible would face the full consequences of the law.

IBEDC urged customers, community leaders and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around electricity infrastructure through the appropriate channels, noting that public cooperation was essential in protecting critical electricity assets.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and the protection of electricity infrastructure across its franchise area, stressing that it would continue to support law enforcement agencies and relevant authorities in efforts to prevent vandalism and bring those responsible to justice.
