IGP Egbetokun, Defence chiefs, pay condolence visit to widow of late CoAS

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, alongside senior officials from the Defence Headquarters, today visited the widow of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Mrs. Mariya Lagbaja, at the family’s official residence in Abuja to offer condolences.
The IGP described Lt. Gen. Lagbaja as a “great man” whose life was dedicated to enhancing Nigeria’s security landscape. “He devoted his vast experience and resources to defend our nation,” Egbetokun remarked during the visit, underscoring Lagbaja’s contributions to the country’s safety and stability.
Accompanying the IGP were the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, as well as other service chiefs and senior Defence Headquarters officers. Together, they paid tribute to the late COAS and highlighted his enduring legacy in Nigeria’s fight against insurgency and terrorism.
“The passing of Gen. Lagbaja is a profound loss to our nation,” the IGP said, noting that his death has left a significant void in Nigeria’s defence efforts.
Egbetokun extended condolences on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Armed Forces, as well as the family and friends of the late Army Chief, praying for divine strength for them in this period of grief.
