In a bid to enhance sanitation and hygiene standards, Ijebu North-East Local Government Area of Ogun State, in collaboration with the Education Care and Support Foundation, has inaugurated a block of 10 toilet facilities at St. Joseph Primary School, located in the Odotu/Odogbe community within the Area.
The Council Chairman, Badejo Folusho, said that the construction of the modern toilet facilities was made possible through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative, adding that it would cater for the needs of both male and female students, as well as teachers.
Expressing gratitude to the Foundation for its support, he emphasized the pivotal role such infrastructure plays in improving sanitation, hygiene, safety, and combating open defecation practices.
Furthermore, Folusho called upon other stakeholders to collaborate with the government in implementing similar projects, underscoring the significant impact on students’ well-being and academic performance.
He also revealed plans by his administration to prioritize the construction of ‘VIP toilets’ and classrooms, aligning with the state government’s objectives.
In acknowledgment of the Foundation’s contribution, Princess Shade Alatishe, a representative of the organization, lauded the Local Government Council for its assistance and vowed to continue providing support as needed.
Notably, the initiative holds special significance as it was dedicated in memory of Patience Bartholomew, a student whose unfortunate demise was attributed to the inadequate toilet facilities at the school, highlighting the urgency and importance of such infrastructural developments.
