Veteran actor and musical artiste, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has opened up about his experiences with ageing, stating that getting older can be difficult.

The artiste made the disclosure on Saturday in an Instagram post, where he shared his experiences with his followers.

In the video, the septuagenarian recounted some of the challenges associated with ageing, including muscle loss, constant exhaustion, reduced bladder capacity leading to frequent urination and keeping up with medical appointments.

While Charly Boy acknowledged the blessings that come with ageing and expressed gratitude for them, he noted that people often overlook the difficulties associated with the natural ageing process.

“Nobody actually tells you this part, because everyone is talking about living longer, but no one tells you how living long feels like. And I am done with pretending, ageing is hard,” he said.

In the caption, he noted that while people celebrate longevity, birthdays and milestones, they often fail to prepare people for how to navigate the realities of ageing. “And maybe we need to stop thinking that ageing is always beautiful and easy. It’s a privilege to grow older, yes. But it can also be hard,” he added.

Recounting his experience, Charly Boy said ageing involves changes in the body and energy levels, as well as requiring more effort to do things that once seemed effortless.

Charly Boy concluded his post by urging people to take care of themselves before the effects of ageing become pronounced, noting that good health and a sound mind make life worthwhile beyond calendar celebrations.
