Imo CP condemns recent attack on officers, assures justice

The Commissioner of Police for Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, has condemned the recent attack and murder of four police officers and a civilian by suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its security arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). In response, the police chief announced the deployment of the command’s tactical units to hunt down those responsible for the attack.

The police officers were ambushed and killed during a routine patrol at Irete along the Owerri-Onitsha express road. A civilian was also fatally injured during the confrontation.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Imo State Command, ASP Henry Okoye, upon receiving news of the incident, CP Danjuma immediately visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. The lifeless bodies of the deceased were evacuated and taken to the mortuary for preservation, while the injured victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently responding to treatment.

“The Commissioner of Police expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident and vowed that the Command will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the perpetrators are all arrested and brought to justice, stressing that the miscreants responsible for the senseless attack have murdered peace,” ASP Okoye said in the statement.

CP Danjuma emphasized that the tragic incident serves as a painful reminder of the daily risks and sacrifices police officers make in their unwavering commitment to public safety. He expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased victims and prayed for the repose of their souls.

The Commissioner has also called on the public, particularly the residents of Ogbakwu, to provide any information that could assist the police in apprehending those responsible for the attack.
