Indomitable Lionesses beat Super Falcons in pre-WAFCON friendly

Nigeria’s women’s national team, the Super Falcons, fell 0-1 to the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in a pre-WAFCON friendly at the Military Stadium, Yaoundé, on Saturday.

The game served as a warm-up for both sides ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where Nigeria will be aiming to retain their title, while Cameroon will be eyeing a maiden continental crown.

Head coach Justin Madugu named a side mixed with new faces and experienced players, as goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor made her debut while Rasheedat Ajibade captained the side. Gift Monday led the line, and Ngozi Okobi returned to the starting line-up after three years.

Despite the rotation, the Super Falcons made a decent start to the game and tried to create clear-cut chances on a few occasions. However, Cameroon’s defence stood firm, denying Madugu’s side the opener in a tight first half.

Nigeria continued to push for a goal in the second half but were unable to break the deadlock. In the 64th minute, Okobi and Rinsola Babajide were substituted for Folashade Ijamilusi and Precious Christopher, who came on for her debut.

A few minutes before the end of the game, the hosts found the breakthrough, sealing a 1-0 win in the dying moments.

The Super Falcons will now prepare for the second friendly between both sides as they face off again on Tuesday, March 3.
