The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 election.
INEC displayed Adegoke’s Form EC9, bearing his name as the ADC governorship candidate, alongside those of candidates nominated by other political parties for the 2027 governorship elections.
The development is expected to end the controversy surrounding the ADC governorship ticket in Oyo State, following competing claims over the identity of the party’s authentic candidate.
The commission’s action was in line with its timetable for the 2027 General Elections, which provides for the display of candidates’ names submitted by political parties. The Oyo governorship election is scheduled for Feb. 6, 2027.
Reacting to the development, Adegoke’s media team said there had never been any doubt about his status as the authentic ADC candidate, noting that he emerged from the party’s governorship primary supervised by INEC.
The team said Adegoke won the primary and urged other aspirants and their supporters to stop making claims that could create confusion over the party’s ticket.
Meanwhile, the team called on ADC members and supporters to remain calm, united and focused as the party prepares for the 2027 election. It described Adegoke as a leader with the experience and capacity to provide good governance in Oyo State.
The team also reaffirmed the ADC’s commitment to credible leadership and urged party stakeholders to respect the party’s decision and INEC’s position as political activities intensify ahead of the governorship election.
