INEC declares Maikalangu winner of AMAC chairmanship poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
Announcing the results, the AMAC Collation Officer, Prof. Andrew Abue, said Maikalangu, the incumbent chairman, secured the highest number of votes cast in the election. He polled 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes to emerge winner.
According to the results, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came third with 3,398 votes.
Prof. Abue stated that a total of 65,197 votes were cast in the election, with 62,861 declared valid and 2,336 rejected. He further disclosed that AMAC has 837,338 registered voters, out of which 65,676 were accredited to vote.
Declaring the result, Abue said: “That Maikalangu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

INEC also released the full breakdown of votes scored by the 14 political parties and their candidates in the contest:

• Nemiebika Tamunomiesam, Action Alliance (AA) – 108 votes
• Paul Ogidi, African Democratic Congress (ADC) – 12,109 votes
• Richard Elizabeth, Action Democratic Party (ADP) – 588 votes
• Christopher Maikalangu, All Progressives Congress (APC) – 40,295 votes
• Eze Chukwu, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) – 1,111 votes
• Chukwu Promise, Allied Peoples Movement (APM) – 122 votes
• Ugoh Michael, Action Peoples Party (APP) – 32 votes
• Thomas Happiness, Boot Party (BP) – 43 votes
• Jibrin Alhassan, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) – 1,694 votes
• Samson Usani, National Rescue Movement (NRM) – 73 votes
• Dantani Zanda, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – 3,398 votes
• Iber Shimakaha, Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) – 90 votes
• Simon Obinna, Social Democratic Party (SDP) – 2,185 votes
