Today is special — by Dayo Olomo

At the first virtual meeting of the Black on Board Community — a thriving community of over 750 Black professionals in the UK whom I have the honour of serving as Chair — I shared something very close to my heart, a truth shaped by my journey from Lagos to London, from loss to leadership:
Success is what you achieve.
Significance is who you impact.
Life has taught me that you don’t have to wait until you “make it” before you start making a difference. You can pursue success and significance at the same time.
My story — losing my dad at eight, hawking cold drinks at ten, facing identity theft, rebuilding my life, serving communities, mentoring leaders — has shown me that every challenge can become a stepping stone.
Last year, as I turned 60, I felt led to put my life lessons into a book:
My 60 Life Lessons for Success and Significance
This book is my heart.
My journey.
My scars and my victories.
My lessons and my legacy.
I wrote it to inspire, to impact, to influence, to guide — and to remind others, especially those who look like us, that your life can be both successful and significant.
If you haven’t got your copy yet, I encourage you to do so.
Let’s keep building lives that matter.
