Insecurity: Badaru calls for synergy with Libya to tackle proliferation of small, light weapons

The Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, has called on the Libyan Government to join hands with the Nigerian Government to tackle the proliferation of small arms and light weapons as well as the trafficking of illicit drugs from Libya to Nigeria.
The Minister made the call when he had an audience with the delegation of Libyan National Security Agency on the side line of the high-level African Counter terrorism meeting in Abuja.
He said that for the safety and stability of both countries and their citizens, there was the need to work together in checking the widespread arms and light weapons proliferation.
Badaru and the Libyan delegations led by General Mahammed Azain discussed other pressing security issues affecting both countries.
Furthermore, they discussed cooperation, sharing of intelligence and Information that would assist in policy planning and direction among the two countries.
Westernpost reported how President Bola Tinubu expressed concern over the proliferation of small and light weapons across the African continent.
He urged for a halt to this trend, emphasizing the need for peace and security in the region.
The President who said this on Monday while delivering his goodwill message at the opening of the African Counter-Terrorism Summit in Abuja, called on leaders to take action at both the national and regional levels to prevent the flow of weapons, which can fuel conflicts and undermine stability in the region.
