Insecurity: Sokoto Governor donates additional vehicles to Nigerian military

…commends presidential support

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has once again strengthened the state’s security operations by donating 10 additional patrol vehicles to the Nigerian military.

The vehicles were officially handed over to the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammad Mutawalle, during a ceremony aimed at reinforcing efforts to combat banditry and other criminal activities in the region.

In his remarks, Governor Aliyu expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, particularly in the North-West region. He praised the President’s decision to deploy the Defence Minister and military service chiefs to Sokoto, highlighting it as a testament to the President’s resolve to restore peace in the state.

“When I met with Mr. President, we had an extensive discussion about the security situation in our state. He assured me of his unwavering support to tackle the challenges we face. Today, we are seeing the results of his pledge,” Governor Aliyu said.

The Governor noted that the recent donation of 10 vehicles adds to the 100 vehicles previously supplied to security agencies in the state. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the military, vowing to utilize the state’s resources to safeguard the lives and property of Sokoto’s residents.

“Security is the number one priority in my nine-point agenda, and we will do everything within the law to protect our people,” Governor Aliyu emphasized.

Commending the Defence Minister’s efforts, Governor Aliyu acknowledged the bravery and dedication shown by Mutawalle in engaging previously inaccessible areas, which had long been abandoned due to security threats. He also urged the people of Sokoto to continue praying for the success of President Tinubu’s efforts to secure the nation.

In response, Minister Mutawalle praised the Governor’s relentless push for federal intervention in Sokoto, which led to the recent relocation of defence officials to the state. He announced that President Tinubu has approved the purchase of CMG vehicles to bolster a new military operation, codenamed “FANSAR YAMMA,” aimed at restoring peace in the North-West.

“The military is fully behind Governor Aliyu, and we will continue to work together to ensure lasting peace in Sokoto,” the Minister assured.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Nigerian Army Sokoto, Brigadier General Ajose, also expressed his appreciation to Governor Aliyu for his continuous support. He reaffirmed the military’s readiness to put an end to banditry in the state.

Following the ceremony, the Defence Minister, Governor Aliyu, and military officers took a symbolic ride in one of the newly donated Buffalo vans, signifying the state’s commitment to enhanced security operations.
