IWD 2026: Lagos APC applauds women’s role in governance, economy

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has joined the global community in celebrating women on the occasion of International Women’s Day, praising their resilience and contributions to societal development.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Lagos APC Spokesman, Seye Oladejo, said the party recognises the vital role women play in building families, communities and the economy, describing them as the backbone of society.

Oladejo said the party remains proud of the deliberate policies implemented by successive APC-led administrations in Lagos State aimed at empowering women and expanding opportunities for them to thrive.

According to him, the state has consistently maintained one of the highest levels of female representation in public service, with women serving as commissioners, permanent secretaries, legislators, special advisers, heads of government agencies and High Court judges.

He noted that the development reflects the party’s belief that inclusive leadership strengthens governance and improves policy outcomes.

Oladejo added that APC-led governments in Lagos have supported thousands of women entrepreneurs, traders and artisans through empowerment initiatives, microcredit schemes, capacity-building programmes and cooperative support structures.

He also highlighted social protection policies designed to protect women from abuse, expand access to healthcare and promote girl-child education, while noting that women in sectors such as agriculture, technology, education and the creative economy have benefited from training programmes, grants and innovation support.

The spokesman reaffirmed the party’s commitment to promoting women’s participation in governance and expanding economic opportunities for women, while commending women across Lagos and Nigeria for their resilience and contributions to society.
