Jigawa, Kano, Lagos lead INEC’s CVR phase two exercise

Jigawa, Kano and Lagos states are leading in the ongoing second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), according to newly released data by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The commission disclosed that Jigawa recorded the highest number of new registrants with 210,868 eligible voters. Kano followed closely with 196,486 registrations, while Lagos posted 192,075 new voters.

At the lower end of the registration chart, Ekiti State recorded the least turnout with 32,475 voters. Anambra followed with 33,826 registrants, while Ondo, Enugu and Plateau states registered 35,280, 40,178 and 52,564 voters respectively.

Regional data shows that the Northwest zone leads overall participation with 1,116,770 registered voters. The Northcentral zone ranks second with 632,055, followed by the Southwest with 600,583. The Northeast recorded 545,037 registrations, while the Southsouth and Southeast trailed with 535,204 and 321,690 respectively.

INEC’s figures also indicate a higher participation rate among women, who account for 2,082,361 registrations, representing 55.55 per cent. Male registrants total 1,666,343, or 44.45 per cent.

The CVR exercise, which commenced in August last year as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections, is scheduled to conclude in August 2026. Eligible Nigerians, particularly those who have turned 18 since the 2023 general election or have yet to register, are encouraged to take part in the process.
