JUST IN: Aiyedatiwa approves payment of salary arrears for Rufus Giwa Polytechnic staff

By Boye Oyeyemi –

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the immediate payment of three months’ outstanding salaries owed to staff of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, in a move aimed at resolving the ongoing labour crisis at the institution.

The directive is part of the governor’s broader efforts to address industrial disputes and restore harmony within the state’s tertiary education sector.

In a related development, Governor Aiyedatiwa also held a meeting with the leadership of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Ondo State chapter, over the union’s ongoing strike.

Judiciary workers embarked on an indefinite industrial action on June 13, 2025, citing the state government’s failure to fully implement aspects of a Memorandum of Understanding that ensures financial autonomy for the judiciary.

Following extensive deliberations, the governor directed the formation of a committee to create a sustainable framework for disbursing funds to the judiciary in line with constitutional autonomy provisions.

The committee, to be chaired by the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Omowumi Isaac, will include representatives from JUSUN and key government agencies.

Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his commitment to an independent judiciary and pledged to continue prioritising the welfare of its workers.

JUSUN State Chairman, Comrade Oluwafemi Afolabi, who led the union’s delegation, thanked the governor for his intervention and acknowledged the administration’s efforts in boosting judicial infrastructure and manpower across the state.
