JUST IN: Delta Governor Oborevwori meets Tinubu at State House

By Kunle Sanni

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, marking his first official visit since his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oborevwori arrived at the State House around 3:30 p.m. and was received by officials before proceeding to a closed-door meeting with the president.

The visit comes weeks after Oborevwori formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC—a move that has shifted Delta’s political landscape and drawn national attention.

His predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, along with Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, commissioners, local government chairmen, and key grassroots structures, also defected to the APC after a closed-door meeting in Asaba.

Okowa was the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.

The wave of defections in Delta mirrors similar political realignments in Rivers and Cross River states, shrinking the PDP’s control to just ten states and weakening what was once a stronghold in the South-South region.
