JUST IN: Gunmen abduct eight worshippers during church service in Kwara

The Kwara State Government has confirmed the abduction of eight members of the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) Church, Omugo in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State during a Sunday service programme.
According to reports, the suspected bandits stormed the church during the service, shooting sporadically to scare the congregation.
Western Post gathered that three of the abducted persons later escaped from their abductors, leaving five behind.
The incident was confirmed by the state government, through the Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, amid tasking security forces and local vigilantes to ensure that the bandits are apprehended.
Describing the act as cowardly, the state government condemned the targeting of religious places by terrorists under any guise, stressing the need for security forces, forest guards, local vigilantes, and community members to work in unity towards curbing the menace of kidnapping in the state
While commending the immediate response of the security forces and other stakeholders, the Kwara State government assured residents of its continuous commitment to work with security forces and community stakeholders to protect lives and property.
