A former member of the House of Representatives, Kolawole Babatunde, has emerged the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State following a rescheduled state congress held on Wednesday in Akure.

The exercise which took place at the International Cultural and Events Centre was organised after a Federal High Court injunction cancelled an earlier exercise conducted on March 3.

However, the legal hurdle was eventually resolved after the intervention of the party’s national leadership, paving the way for a fresh congress to be conducted.

Present at the venue were officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to monitor proceedings, the Deputy Governor, Olayide Adelami, alongside party members.

Representing Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Deputy Governor, Olayide Adelami, described the successful conduct of the congress as a major step towards strengthening unity within the party and commended the National Working Committee of the APC for facilitating reconciliation among aggrieved members.

Adelami noted that the resolution of disputes and the vacation of the court injunction allowed the party to proceed peacefully with the exercise, while also praising party leaders and members for demonstrating maturity and commitment to unity.

In his acceptance speech, Kolawole Babatunde, the new chairman, pledged to unite members of the party, promising to ensure fairness and inclusiveness while working with party leaders and youths to strengthen the APC ahead of future elections.
