JUST IN: Police confirm UNIMED Registrar was assassinated

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the assassination of the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Mr Ezekiel Imole Adeniran.

WESTERN POST earlier reported the passing of Adeniran, whose lifeless body was discovered in his Ondo town residence during the early hours of Thursday, July 17, 2025, a development that has thrown the university community into mourning.

A source within the institution who asked not to be named revealed, “He was found dead this morning at his residence. We are hopeful that the police will uncover the truth behind this terrible incident.”

Speaking on the case, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that preliminary findings indicate it was an assassination.

“The incident occurred early Thursday and was reported at the Fanibi Police Division. Initial findings suggest it was a case of assassination,” Ayanlade said.

He further explained that intelligence gathered indicated two unidentified individuals reportedly emerged from a nearby bush and allegedly forced a substance into another person’s mouth. The precise location of the incident is still being verified.

“We are calling on members of the public who may have useful information to come forward and assist in our investigation,” he added.

In response to the tragedy, UNIMED’s management expressed profound sorrow over the loss.
