JUST IN: Tinubu responds to NEC on tax reform, says bill should stay with National Assembly

By Kunle Sanni

President Bola Tinubu has stated that the tax reform bills will not be withdrawn from the National Assembly, despite a recommendation from the National Economic Council (NEC) to do so.

In a statement released on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, it was emphasized that while Tinubu acknowledges NEC’s recommendation, he believes the legislative process should proceed without interruption.

Tinubu’s response comes after the NEC advised the withdrawal of the tax reform bills currently under review in the National Assembly for further consultations.

In the statement, the president commended Vice President Kashim Shettima and the 36 state governors for their input but stressed that the ongoing legislative process already provides ample opportunities for stakeholders to share their insights and propose necessary adjustments to the bills without requiring withdrawal.

He urged the NEC to allow the legislative process to continue as planned while welcoming ongoing consultations with relevant stakeholders to address any concerns.
