JUST IN: Traditionalists perform rites, curse Betty Akeredolu over remark on Olowo

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The controversy surrounding the demolition of a memorial monument in Owo took a new dimension on Thursday as some individuals, believed to be local residents, were seen performing traditional rites and placing curses.

In a live video now circulating widely on social media, the group was captured chanting in the Owo dialect and invoking traditional incantations while audibly mentioning ‘Betty’, the widow of the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

The video was aired on Facebook by a page known as Jide Tububo Media TV (Oceanic News).

The ritual took place near the Owo main market, where the individuals appeared visibly displeased with recent comments made by the former First Lady.

In a viral video released on Wednesday, Mrs. Akeredolu had described the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, as a “baby oba,” a remark that has sparked outrage among some indigenes of the ancient town.

Details later.
