Kano governor demands removal of police commissioner over Independence Day snub

By Kunle Sanni –

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has called for the immediate removal of Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, after the commissioner and his officers failed to attend the state’s 65th Independence Day celebration.

Speaking at the Sani Abacha Stadium during the commemoration on Tuesday, the governor expressed displeasure at what he described as unprofessional and partisan conduct by the police chief.

“As you can see, on this historic Independence anniversary of Nigeria, the Commissioner of Police decided to pull out of the parade along with his personnel,” Yusuf said.

He condemned Bakori’s absence, stressing that it amounted to disloyalty to the country. “This is unprofessional. This is disloyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. On this note, I call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to remove the state Commissioner of Police,” he declared.

The governor further described the commissioner’s actions as “unethical” and “partisan,” saying they were unbecoming of a law enforcement leader.

Despite the controversy, Yusuf assured residents that Kano remains peaceful, urging security agencies to prioritize their constitutional duties over politics.
