Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has imposed a ban on all forms of public gatherings intended for protests within the state.
The announcement was made through a statement by his Director-General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Tofa, on Wednesday in Kano.
Yusuf has directed the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to apprehend, detain, and prosecute any individuals or groups violating this order.
“This decisive action is a preemptive strategy aimed at averting any potential breakdown of law and order orchestrated by adversaries of the state,” the statement read.
It further disclosed that the government has received credible intelligence indicating that prominent opposition figures are planning to incite chaos by sponsoring student associations and political agitators from other northwestern states.
While stating that these actions are reportedly under the guise of advocating for the dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, the notice informed that, the state government has outlawed all protests, demonstrations, and processions.
The statement emphasized that any individuals found engaging in such activities on the streets of Kano will be promptly arrested.
“Through this declaration, we caution student groups against being manipulated by troublemakers who are resolute in fomenting disorder in Kano,” it added.
Yusuf further urged citizens to continue with their daily activities as the state maintains its peaceful environment.
He assured that the government would remain vigilant in monitoring the situation to address any threats to the state’s peace.
