Kano Govt insists tax reform bills ‘ill-timed, lopsided’

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reaffirmed his opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills.

Governor Yusuf, who spoke at the Year 2025 Celebrations held at the Filin Mahaha, Kofar Naisa open theatre, said the proposed tax increase is “ill-timed, lopsided, and inimical to the unity of the country.”

Ibrahim Garba Shu’aibu, the Deputy Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, said in a statement that the governor was adamantly against the proposed tax reform bills before the National Assembly because he believed that Nigerians in general and the North in particular were suffering from hyperinflation and unheard-of levels of insecurity.

He argued that President Tinubu need to focus more on addressing severe hunger and poverty, particularly in the country’s North.
