Kogi Gov to launch statewide flagship healthcare intervention program

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is preparing to unveil a flagship healthcare intervention program that will provide free medical services across the state.

This initiative was announced during a meeting at the Government House in Lokoja with members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and other healthcare professionals. The meeting followed the conclusion of a successful three-day medical outreach organized by the NMA in Kogi State.

Governor Ododo expressed his gratitude to the medical professionals for their efforts during the outreach and highlighted the importance of the upcoming healthcare intervention program.

The program, referred to as the “health train,” will involve a team of healthcare professionals visiting different parts of the state to deliver essential medical services. This initiative is intended to complement existing secondary and primary healthcare services in Kogi State.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the health sector, Governor Ododo emphasized that the free medical outreach aligns with his campaign promise to make healthcare more accessible and affordable for the state’s residents.

“A healthy society is a wealthy society,” he said. “I will continue to support this exercise and ensure that the free medical outreach reaches every part of the state. This program will become a flagship initiative in our healthcare agenda.”

Governor Ododo also called on medical practitioners in the state to continue supporting the administration and to expand their collaboration with the government through the state Ministry of Health.

The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, commended the medical team for the success of the outreach, describing it as a testament to the dedication of healthcare professionals in Kogi State. He also praised Governor Ododo for prioritizing the welfare of healthcare workers and creating an enabling environment for them to excel.

Dr. David Aimila, Chairman of the Committee of Past Chairmen of the NMA in Kogi State, described the outreach as a high-impact intervention that delivered remarkable outcomes in various medical fields. He lauded Governor Ododo for his strong support of the health sector.

Professor Solomon Avidime, Chief Medical Director of Reference Hospital Okene and host of the medical team, also applauded the governor’s health-friendly policies. He emphasized the significance of the free medical outreach, noting that it complements the state’s free health insurance policy by enhancing healthcare coverage across Kogi State.

Governor Ododo’s flagship healthcare intervention program is set to be a cornerstone of his administration’s efforts to improve health services and ensure that all residents of Kogi State have access to quality medical care.
