Kunle Afolayan’s KAP Film & Television Academy has unveiled a 10-day intensive Filmmaking Residency Programme, scheduled to run from October 6 to 15, 2025.

The residency will be hosted at the KAP Film Village & Resort in Igbojaye, Oyo State, the location of the Netflix blockbuster Aníkúlápó.

Themed “Emerging Stories,” the programme is designed to equip aspiring filmmakers with hands-on training. According to KAP Academy, participants will be mentored by Nigerian cinema greats, including Kunle Afolayan, Tunde Kelani, and Joke Silva.

The curriculum will cover the entire filmmaking pipeline—from screenwriting and directing to cinematography, editing, and the business of film. “This residency is not just about technical skills; it’s about instilling the passion and discipline required to become a successful storyteller,” Afolayan said.

He further noted that Emerging Stories represents the heartbeat of African cinema’s future, stressing that the Academy’s mission is to provide the tools for new voices to be heard globally.

The Oyo State Government has endorsed the initiative, aligning it with its plan to foster talent and expand the creative economy. Governor Oluseyi Makinde said the partnership with KAP Academy reflects the state’s commitment to youth empowerment and creativity.

Makinde, who commissioned the KAP Film Village & Resort in April, has also committed to reconstructing the road leading to the world-class tourism destination.

The programme will draw participants from all 33 local government areas of Oyo State, with the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Honourable Ademola Ojo, confirming the readiness and excitement of the selected candidates.
