Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has praised President Bola Tinubu and security agencies for the recent arrest of top terrorist leaders in the country, describing it as a strong indication of the administration’s commitment to defeating terrorism.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Wednesday, the Governor said the capture of Mahmud Muhammad Usman, leader of Ansaru, and his deputy, Mahmud al-Nigeri, also known as Malam Mahmuda, reflected the success of intelligence-driven counterterrorism operations.

“These arrests are a big win for the country. We commend the President, the National Security Adviser, and the leadership of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Police, and other agencies for this feat. On our part, we will continue to support the efforts of the President and security agencies on all fronts,” the statement read.

AbdulRazaq assured residents that the breakthrough, combined with ongoing security measures nationwide, would help stamp out criminal activities in communities and restore public confidence.

The Governor urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, stressing that his administration would not spare resources in ensuring the protection of lives and property.

He noted that limited disclosure of certain security operations was not due to inaction but was essential to safeguard intelligence gathering, arrests, and prevention of planned attacks.

AbdulRazaq further appealed for calm as renewed efforts were being deployed to tackle criminal groups, especially in rural areas, with more operatives, including forest guards, being mobilised to enhance safety.

He also directed the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) to take immediate inventory of persons affected by insecurity, in collaboration with community leaders, to ensure accountability and adequate support.
