Kwara Govt distributes 73,364 free textbooks, sports kits to public school pupils

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Thursday flagged off the distribution of multimillion-naira instructional materials and sports kits for pupils in primary and junior secondary schools across the state.

The distributed items included 73,364 textbooks covering English, Mathematics, Computer Studies, and other core subjects; 12,780 assorted primary school library books; 100 special education materials; 260 sets of Early Childhood Care, Development, and Education (ECCDE) plastic chairs and tables; 3,931 sports equipment items; 344 sets of agricultural tools; and 78 tablets (Maga Tab X).

The Governor described the initiative as another in a series of interventions reflecting his administration’s commitment to prioritizing basic education.

“It is our firm belief that the issue of out-of-school children will soon become a thing of the past due to our strong commitment to education development in the state,” he said.

Governor AbdulRazaq, represented by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, stated that the free distribution of textbooks aims to ease the financial burden on parents amid rising costs of instructional materials.

He highlighted the administration’s ongoing efforts, including regular teacher recruitment, timely promotions, and the upgrading of school infrastructure, to revamp the education sector.

Commending the initiative, Chairman of the Kwara House Committee on Education, Hon. Muhammed Boriya Salihu, described the event as a milestone in the state’s educational development.

“With this and other developmental projects, Kwara has moved beyond the setbacks of the past, addressing critical gaps in various sectors,” he said.

Kwara SUBEB Chairman, Prof. Sheu Raheem Adaramaja, praised the Governor’s unwavering commitment to improving basic education, noting that the distribution of materials and sports kits would enhance learning and overall development in schools.

“These resources will undoubtedly improve education standards and promote sports activities, bringing relief to parents and pupils across the state,” he said. “Education remains the foundation of development, and our goal is to nurture future leaders who will drive positive change in Kwara and beyond.”

Aliyu Kora Sabi; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Bake Olarewaju; APC Chieftain, Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin; Senior Special Assistant on Religion (Islam), Alhaji Ibrahim Danmeigoro; Chairman, Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Magaji; Local Government Education Secretaries; traditional chiefs; and the President of the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Public Schools (ANCOPS), Alhaji Muhammed Baba Saliu, among others.
